Chery Arrizo 5e

2026-09-22 10:50:00

The Chery Arrizo 5e is a C-segment fully electric sedan developed by Chery New Energy based on the internal combustion engine (ICE) platform of the Chery Arrizo 5. Serving as Chery’s pioneering venture into the mainstream electric family sedan market, the Arrizo 5e spearheaded the brand's electrification transition between 2017 and 2020, offering urban commuters a zero-emission, low-maintenance mobility solution. Although the model line has gradually been phased out following strategic realignments within Chery New Energy, this early ICE-to-EV conversion remains a significant milestone in Chery’s product evolution.

Model Overview

The Arrizo 5e is positioned as a C-segment three-box all-electric sedan, measuring 4,572 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,496 mm in height, with a 2,670 mm wheelbase. Marketed as a practical and economical electric family runabout, its key selling points include generous cabin space, understated exterior styling, and a responsive electric motor tuned specifically for city driving. The model was engineered to deliver cost-effective motoring, catering to both family use and e-hailing operators for high-frequency urban trips.

Development History

Genesis and Market Launch (2017–2018): In 2017, capitalising on China’s new energy vehicle subsidies, Chery introduced the Arrizo 5e on the existing Arrizo 5 platform. Retaining the spacious packaging of the petrol-powered variant, it swapped in an electric motor and battery pack, swiftly securing a foothold in the rapidly expanding EV market.

Technical Updates (2019): In 2019, Chery rolled out updated variants offering extended range (such as the 401 Zhixiang Edition). During this update, the electric powertrain—comprising the battery, motor, and power electronics—was significantly refined, bumping the NEDC-rated range to 401 km to better cater to intercity commutes.

Lifecycle and Phase-out (2020 to Present): As Chery New Energy shifted its focus towards dedicated bespoke EV architectures (such as the eQ series and higher-end platforms), R&D and production of the Arrizo 5e were gradually wound down. As of 2026, the vehicle has effectively ceased production, with remaining stock in run-out mode. Chery’s electric sedan portfolio has since transitioned to more competitive, next-generation pure electric and hybrid models, including the Arrizo series' latest C-DM plug-in hybrids.

Market Performance

Throughout its production run, the Arrizo 5e maintained a steady market presence. Beyond budget-conscious private buyers, it was widely adopted by urban e-hailing fleets, largely thanks to its generous rear legroom and proven chassis durability. In the pre-owned market, it continues to serve as an affordable daily workhorse. Supported by a healthy operating population, replacement parts and routine servicing remain readily accessible for existing owners.

Core Technologies

Powertrain Architecture: Powered by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 90 kW and 250 Nm of torque. Tuned for linear power delivery and brisk off-the-line response, it offers far superior drivability in stop-and-go city traffic compared to equivalent petrol sedans.

Battery and Range: Early variants feature a ~50 kWh ternary lithium battery pack supporting DC fast charging (0–80% state of charge in approximately 30 minutes), making it well-suited for daily urban commuting.

Chassis Setup: Utilises MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam setup at the rear. With the battery pack mounted low under the floor pan, the lower centre of gravity delivers improved ride stability over its petrol-powered sibling.

Infotainment and Tech: Equipped with a standard infotainment head unit featuring satellite navigation, multimedia playback, and basic telematics connectivity. While modest by 2026 standards, it adequately fulfilled the essential equipment requirements of its era.

Future Plans

Chery Auto has now fully pivoted towards dedicated EV platforms and its latest 'Kunpeng Power (C-DM)' hybrid technology. Having served its role as a transitional model, the Arrizo 5e has fulfilled its mission. Chery’s future sedan development will centre on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and high-efficiency dedicated battery electric vehicles (BEVs), leveraging advanced electrical architectures and AI to elevate vehicle intelligence and efficiency. While existing Arrizo 5e owners will retain full after-sales and spare parts support, no further technical updates or successors are planned for this model line.
